The Queen
Part of the draw for us tonight was the current controversy surrounding Queen of Sheba's liquor license application. They have been open for a year or so now and still haven't gotten a liquor license. Their current attempt to get one is being opposed by someone affiliated with Shiloh Baptist Church. (Shiloh is right across the street and can be sort of seen in my cameraphone picture to the left there.) I don't know enough about the situation to blame Shiloh Baptist, but they have opposed liquor licenses in the past and certainly don't seem to have a positive impact on the neighborhood. I am certainly going to show my support for Queen of Sheba because I hope to enjoy more good Ethiopian food there in the future, but with the welcome addition of a nice, choice beverage!
[p.s. apologies for the poor photo quality & props to anyone who figures out the trickery involved with the image.]

i suppose i could understand a church not wanting a check cashing liquor store to open up shop next door but for a nice restaurant to not serve alcohol seems over the top. But it also doesn't sound like the opposition is too strong, good for you for fighting for small business!
The funny thing about the Shiloh/Queen of Sheba business is that there is a liquor store right across the street from Shiloh and a Giant that sells wine & beer on the other corner. Shiloh also apparently opposed Vegetate (another restaurant) getting a liquor license, but Vegetate eventually won out.
Shiloh seems like quite the community pests, judging from their anti-development efforts.
